Fun Day at the Headlands

A few Chapter members made it out to the Headlands Center for the Arts for their Open House on Sunday. What an inspiring trip! All the studios were open, as was the Mess Hall, serving up mac 'n cheese and sweet potato sandwiches. The artists were all around, ready to talk about their work and the experience of living and/or working on site.

Many of the artists displayed the books they were reading that inspired or informed their work. It's like they were waiting for librarians to ask them about the connection between books and art-making... The Headlands Center micro library was closed that day, but perhaps we could get them to open it up if we plan a return visit!

Silent Auction Donation

We're bringing a great set of goodies to the ARLIS/NA 2014 conference in Washington, D.C. to represent our chapter in the Silent Auction!

Showcasing the professional and artistic talents and interests of several of our chapter members, this year we're donating:
  • A handmade Kimono Bag by local artist Yoshiko (thanks to Kay Teel)
  • A catalog of the Frank V. de Bellis Collection from the J. Paul Leonard Library at SFSU (thanks to Darlene Tong)
  • A set of bookmarks from the City College of San Francisco Library Exhibition Program (thanks to Kate Connell)
  • A boxed set of posters from "Crossing the Street: San Francisco, Mapping Hidden Stories" co-created by chapter member, artist, and librarian Kate Connell (thanks also to Kate!)
  • And a librarian-themed tea towel customized for ARLIS/NA 2014 (thanks to Dayna Holz)
The proceeds benefit student scholarships to attend ARLIS/NA. Check out some of the other offerings on the Pinterest page and encourage your colleagues from afar who are attending the conference to bid on our chapter donation!
